Default Do any of you guys miss Pre-Ascalon?

Sometimes I take my pre searing character out for a run in Ascalon in it's mighty days. The scenery is absolutely breathtaking. I would still have to vote on pre having better surroundings than what they have in newb island in Cantha.

So do you guys still play with characters in pre? I sometimes find myself asking why Pre is so addictive. Perhaps it's also the simple life where you don't get trade spams of "WTS - ..... for 100k".

Here's 2 of my favourite screenies to get the thread going:

Here is in the Catacombs, it's an awesome place to visit. How come it isn't accessible in post searing??

Northerlands. Before the Charr came and butt-raped Ascalon.

So what do you guys think? Is Pre better looking than most sceneries in Cantha? It's pretty amazing what Anet did when Prophecies first came out. I kinda regret rushing through Pre when I first started. I should have taken things more slowly and enjoyed the sights before I got dumped in that horrible mess of Post-searing. :P

Another question, how many of you guys actually keep pre searing characters and what are your reasons?

Yeah, pre-searing is the prettiest area in the game, hands down, handily beating Shing Jea island. I'd also say that it's the best designed. You can really feel how it was a real labor of love for whomever designed it, with lots of little flourishes like the ghost in the graveyard, the hidden area by Ranik, and the white rabbit. It's also nice that not every single mob attacks you on sight.

It's also the friendliest and most laid-back area in the game, or at least was until the guild-hall bug allowed tons of cash and items to flow in to pre-searing and it too became just another hangout for uberfarmers - on my last tour in pre I lost track of all the all-black monks who were spamming WTS charr farmed gear & WTB black dye.

That said, it's a pretty limited area, and although I sometimes create a new char to run around and enjoy the scenery, I don't stay there for more than a few days. It is an area with training wheels, and it feels.

I still like good old Pre-searing Ascalon, and even keep a small measure of hope that one day it will be rebuilt to it's former glory in a future chapter.

Yeah...we should be allowed to restore the Ascalon.
The story about Ascalon just end after Rurik died, and nothing follow up.
Come on Anet, give the Ascalon back to us

Perhaps Anet could put in some sort of time portal thingy that brings you back to pre Just like that portal that took over Tombs of the Primeval Kings.

I miss pre's scenery, but I do not miss its lousy teaching. Shing Jea is far better for learning how to play the game, and theres no one there trying to buy black dye for 50g.

Pre-searing Ascalon is the best place in Guild Wars. I sometimes make a character there with reserved PvP slot and go look some beautiful views.

If you think pre-searing is beautiful, you obviously have never been in Kryta and the Maguuma Jungle. The scenery is 10 times prettier than pre, and it has a little challenge too.
The only one that I miss a bit is Gwen. Don't know why, though. :S

I definitely miss pre-searing. I used to have a char camped there but I had to delete it, untill ANET let us purchase additional slots. Why do I like it so much? Probably for the same reason I like Shing Jea Island or the Warriors Island: everything is green, life seems to be peaceful in the small villages, people do care more about their pigs than the demons invating the cities in other parts of the world... Yeah, that's quiet, and that's good. However there is something more for me in pre.. Is it Devona, or Cynn b**ching around? Or the nasty Gwen?

I guess my 7th char will stay in pre, spending his time farming Red Iris Flowers...

But the maguuma is always night time and Kryta seems to have that repetitive scenery :P

Either way, there's those hostile mobs that try to get you lol.

Aaah yes, that annoying Gwen... :P

I kinda prefer pre-seer ascalon, I have more of a connection to it, and its pretty. Shing Jea is lovely though, but I need more forests with canopies above me head :-)

Yeah, it's easily the nicest looking and laid-back area of the game. Nowhere else in Prophecies or Factions comes anywhere near the design.

But isn't that the whole point of it ? To show the juxtaposition between post and pre-sear Ascalon ? Certainly depresses the hell out of me everytime I stand near what was the waterfall in Ashford.

Must be why in the 2 years between the searing and coming back to Ascalon our characters get no experience or better equipment....

Shing Jea is nice, but it's too rushed for me.
Pre-searing is different, I can always enjoy myself in it.

Yea I love pre-seer Acsalon. Best area in the game. As was said above, you can tell, the area was made with "love" and care. It wasn't slapped together real fast to meet a dead line.
The fact that not everything attacks you constantly is also nice as it allows for the player to look around and enjoy the enviroment.

The Jungle is also nice looking, but having to clear the entire zone to be able to look at the art is annoying. I wish GW had a leveled aggro table so once you are a few levels above the enemies they would leave you alone unless you attack first.

Shing Jea is too rushed, too cramped and too... I dunno, just bleh. Has a few good looking spots, but not many.

Favorite area in the game (including Factions): Pre-sear catacombs.

Edit: spelling
